Western Fair Announces Drivers' Holiday Challenge Lineup
The Raceway at Western Fair District will once again celebrate the season of giving with its sixth annual Drivers’ Holiday Challenge, taking place on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
This year’s edition introduces a new twist, as teams of two drivers representing regions across Canada will go head-to-head for national holiday bragging rights — all in support of Toys for Tots.
There will be four regional teams vying for top honours in the friendly competition, as listed below.
Western Canada: Phil Hudon & Daryl Thiessen
Ontario: Garrett Rooney & Lorne House
Maritimes: Austin Sorrie & Paul MacKenzie
Quebec: Louis-Philippe Roy & Samuel Fillion
Drivers will accumulate points throughout the evening’s races, with the regional team earning the highest combined total taking the title of 2025 Holiday Challenge Champions.
Those wishing to make a cash donation can e-transfer funds directly to mcnivenk@gmail.com. All those who make a cash donation prior to Nov. 28 will be entered for a chance to win a dining package for two at the Top of the Fair the night of the event. All donations are also entered for a chance to win a gift certificate to Britt’s Custom Creations, Mare Flare Equestrian and The Keg (donated by Twinbrook Farms).
Toy donations can also be dropped off in person to Kelly McNiven or at any of the following locations: Wilson’s Tack Shop at The Raceway, Mare Flare at Flamboro Downs, Wilson’s Tack retail location in London, Ont., or Western Fair District (Top of the Fair, The Market, The Sports Centre).
The evening’s first post for the Dec. 9 program is scheduled for 5:50 p.m. and coincides with Trifecta Tuesday at the Top of the Fair Dining Room, featuring a buffet-style dinner, racing and gaming vouchers, and special seniors’ pricing. To make a reservation for the dining room, visit topofthefair.com. The event will also be covered on Primetime Racing, which will be its final broadcast of the 2025 season.
“The Drivers’ Holiday Challenge is always a fun and competitive way to give back and we wanted to add a new twist this year with the regional component,” said Greg Blanchard, Director of Equine Programming at Western Fair District. “We’re proud to support Toys for Tots again this year and bring our racing community together for such a great cause.”
