Rooney First In Five Races Wednesday At Western Fair
Garrett Rooney delivered one win after another in his first five drives on Wednesday, April 1 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Driving trainer Don Thomson's homebred four-year-old pacer Big Rooster ($2.70), Rooney sent the maiden-breaking four-year-old on a front-end mission to open the mid-week card with a two-length win in 1:59.1.
In his next two drives in the third and fourth races, Rooney guided popular four-year-old pacing mare Angel Of Honor ($2.30) to a half-length triumph over Greystone Wicked in a two-minute mile for trainer Gerard Lilley then sprang a 13-1 upset with four-year-old pacer Left On Read ($29) leading wire-to-wire in 2:02.1 for the Randy Marriage stable.
Back in action in the sixth race, The Raceway's leading driver sent the seven-year-old trotting mare Toscano Girl ($8.50) on a successful first-over journey for her fifth win of the year in 2:00.4 for conditioner Greg Price. In the next race, veteran pacer Shanghaigold ($4.80), trained by Melissa Loyer, fought off Livin Large for a repeat score by half a length in 1:59.4 to complete Rooney's five-win night.
